I remember when I heard that John Candy had died. I was heartbroken and inconsolable for many days. John was so talented and had amazing comedic timing. His work on SCTV made me laugh out loud so often I know I woke my family on several occasions. Dr. Tongue's 3D House of Pancakes (ooooooo -- scary kids!) was a big FAVE. Trains, Planes and Automobiles is watched in my home every Thanksgiving. That last scene always brings me to tears -- his sweet face and smile. Truly just a very kind and very funny man. Compulsive overeating is a disease and I sure think it is what took him from us. Rest in God's peace John. I hope to give you a big hug of thanks one day if I get to meet you in Heaven.

If John was even half of some of his roles then he must have been a lovely person. Taken from us far too early.

I grew up with an older brother and sister in the 80's and John Candy movies were always popular at our house. I always viewed John as a father figure from his memorable performances in Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors. He reminded me of my father I guess. As an adult I think of all those good movies that taught us values and I'd like to share them with my son. Thank you sir for all your great movies and you will never be forgotten.

I'm just watching COOL RUNNINGS on tv now and looked up John Candy online - he was a stand out actor, I agree with everyone's sentiments here. He was a Real person we could and can continue to identify with and feel he is a friend. Thanks for your legacy John. I truly wish you were still with us and healthy and happy.

I miss him so much. It was so nice to meet him and be in his movie 'Hostage for a Day' He was filming in Richmond Hill and we just popped in as extras. He was so nice. The first time I ever saw John Candy was in that Chevy Chase movie Summer Vacation where they went to "Wallyworld". I really don't know why but I always thought that the guard was Jimmy Carter's brother "Billy"!
